Use popular candy to promote spay neuter!
Here's an easy & fun way to help educate the public to neuter their pets.
How many vets or animal friendly business you know have a candy bowl? How about asking them to consider this really cute idea. It's such a small effort on their behalf that can made a very significatnt difference to all those critters out there who should be neutered.
Buy a small bag of Smarties Candies, those little rolls of disks that you usually see at Halloween time. Available at Target, Tom Thumb, just about every place (see below for more info if you can't find them or want to really fan this project out!)
Print up our little Smarties & Life Saver signs: "SMARTIES NEUTER, DUMMIES DON'T!" or "BE a Life Saver! NEUTER!". Hot glue a plastic clothes pin to the back of the sign. Buy a little plastic bowl (4 for $1.00!) at the dollar store, clip the sign on, fill with candy and WALLA!
Smarties Candy will sell in bulk quantity. (Search CD Candies for email address of the Smarties folks, or maybe I'll remember to post the contact information here some day.. feel free to give me grief.) You can buy 38 pounds of Smarties for $50.00 which includes shipping and is a WONDERFUL way to help vets and animal friendly businesses to give their customers
& clients a treat and get the message out too.
Life Savers manufacturers, unfortunately, do not sell wholesale.
BTW, a cute idea at Easter time, is to can use the same idea with those plastic Easter Eggs. Buy a bunch when they go on sale after Easter and then fill the egg with one indiviudally wrapped Life Saver and a little fortune cookie type sign that says: "Life Savers NEUTER!" Leave on the counters of animal friendly businesses, especially your vet.
OR, you could take the same Easter eggs and do a raffle with them. All but one have cute spay neuter slogans, or Life Saver's Neuter, and one has "I'm a Neuter WINNER!"
The great news with the Easter eggs is that people don't really want to keep the egg and you don't have to replace your supply all the time. Just leave two baskets, one for the eggs with goodies, and one for broken eggs.
The most important thing to remember is that these ideas all serve to give people an "anchor". They will remember neuter when they see Smarties or Life Savers, and even Easter eggs! And chances are they will turn right around and say to someone: "You won't believe, I saw the cutest thing today..."
Ah, and if the Smarties and Life Savers slogans don't work, try "I'm sweet on neuter". Please visit NNL and our "Humor Us, Neuter US Campaign!" for more slogans, you are encouraged to use any/all!!
If these ideas remind one person to neuter you've saved 80,000,000 cats or 67,000 dogs from coming into a world where there's NO MORE ROOM.
These are the small versions, click on them for the BIG signs.
